The Maternity Experience

Picture

Women experience far more than pregnancy when pregnant.  There are dreams, bodily changes, changes of esteem, shifting roles for the homespace or workspace.  Memories that were long ago buried may all of a sudden surface. Fears of competent parenting tug at us.  Unending commentary made by relatives, friends, co-workers and the media only add to the overwhelming pressures.

And yet, pregnancy is also one of the most fruitful times for change in a woman’s life.  Change is occurring already, so new changes can come easier.  The emotional shifts due to caring for a new life, allow you to examine things that you may not have seen so clearly beforehand.  Events or relationships from your past that have haunted you can be put to rest or put in "safe containers" to deal with labor and birth more peacefully.  And then revisit later, after the family has adjusted to baby on the outside.

Birth Heart provides a safe environment to explore events, emotions and attitudes that are intertwined with the momentous change in your world. In groups or individually, simple techniques and honest talk, can create space for transition to occur and calm to return.
