What the Initial Steps of Therapy Might Look Like.
Therapy is a collaborative process. But the therapist needs to fit you.
Look at the photos and images on this or another Therapist’s website. See if they resonate with you. Send an email of inquiry or make a phone call. See if you feel a connection with Jessica (or any other therapist).
When you arrive for your initial appointment or consultation, you will be asked to fill out a brief information form. That form will be discussed, along with why you felt compelled to come in for a consultation. It is also important to share what you are specifically wanting to gain from therapy.
The rest of the 50 minutes (all sessions last under an hour to allow time for clients to exit and enter) will be spent discussing, sharing, and getting comfortable with your therapist and the room. You only need to share what you wish.
Jessica will ask questions or allow you to fully share your story in order to understand how you arrived to where you are today. You too, can ask questions and take the conversation where you choose. You may find at the end of the session that you did not value the connection like you expected or instead that you felt understood and heard. At this point you will probably know if you want to make another appointment or try another therapist. Either is okay. Your needs are paramount.
Each relationship is different, because each client and each therapist is different. Your comfort is important. Your sense of safety is important. Therapy can go wherever you want it to go. Therapy does not need to go on for months or years. Your needs set the time frame and that can be redrawn at anytime. You are the one requesting services.
Your growth, your goals and your needs are paramount. Make the best of your Therapy.
